Ein einzelnes System, das ohne Vorwissen startet und sich entwickelt, ohne vortrainierte oder übernommene Teile. Es erhielt Kamera und Mikrofon, eine Echtzeituhr, Schlafphasen und ein Gedächtnis für Erlebtes. Zuletzt wurde auch der letzte übernommene Teil entfernt.
A single system that starts without prior knowledge and develops, with no pretrained or borrowed parts. It was given a camera and microphone, a real time clock, sleep phases and a memory for experienced events. Finally, the last borrowed part was removed as well.
Woran es scheiterteWhy it failed
Bei dieser Zahl an Teilen wurde die eigene Dokumentation unzuverlässig. Dokumente führten Reparaturen, die im Code nicht standen. Prüfungen bestanden, weil sie so gebaut waren, dass sie bestehen mussten. Was auf dem Prüfstand bestand, bestand im Betrieb nicht. Ohne verlässliche Dokumentation ist jede weitere Messung wertlos.
At that number of parts, the project's own documentation became unreliable. Documents listed repairs that were not in the code. Tests passed because they were built so that they had to pass. What passed on the test bench did not hold in operation. Without reliable documentation, every further measurement is worthless.

Geprüft wird am laufenden Organismus, von außen. Eine Prüfung, die nicht die eigentliche Frage stellt, sichert nichts ab. Aus V11 übernommen wurde das Ziel, dass sich das System entwickelt, statt fertig zu starten.
Testing happens on the running organism, from the outside. A test that does not ask the actual question provides no assurance. Carried over from V11 is the aim that the system develops instead of starting finished.
